Anyone who has a website or a blog will be aware of how difficult obtaining traffic, particularly targeted traffic can be. If you are on this page now it is probably because you would like more traffic yourself. It is important to note that you don't just want traffic you want engaged visitors. Engaged visitors are likely to stay on you website or blog for longer, are more likely to return to your site and are more likely to share your site with others.

Facebook for Traffic
If I was to only use one technique for gaining visitors it would more than likely be Facebook. When you consider that Facebook claims to have 1.11 billion monthly active users and over 600 million daily active users it is not difficult to see why Facebook would be my number one choice. If you have a website or blog and you are not promoting it on Facebook in some way then there is a good chance you are missing an opportunity to gain traffic. Below are some of the ways you can gain traffic using Facebook:

  • Create a Facebook page - A Facebook page can be a very effective and free method to gain a new fan base, create a brand and direct traffic to your blog and website. One of the difficulties can be gaining 'likes' for your page. However you can invite your friends to 'like' your page and ask them to share it with others. You can also share your page in relevant groups. If you have an advertising budget you can advertise for 'likes' through Facebook ads. Or even run a competition where users are entered by liking and sharing a specified post. When a user 'likes' your page they will see updates about your page in their newsfeed. This makes a Facebook page a great way to update users about your site.

  • Start a Facebook Ads Campaign - Facebook's sponsored ads can be a really effective way to gain targeted traffic to your site. What makes it so brilliant is you have full control. There are a number of targeting options including: age, gender, location and interests of users. In addition  you can select your daily budget with no minimum spend and pause your campaign at anytime. Facebook also provides stats so you know how well your campaign is doing. I have used Facebook for advertising in the past and have found it very effective. If you do decide to place a Facebook Ad remember you do so at your own risk.

To summarize if you are looking to increase traffic to your site and gain targeted visitors you may find Facebook a very effective tool. Although Facebook can help you in gaining visitors it is the content on your site that will determine whether and for how long visitors stay or if they decide to return.
